The building blocks of an AIF
Every fund separates the vehicle that holds investments from the parties that run it.
- The fund vehicle: company, partnership, or contractual arrangement
- The manager (AIFM), authorized or registered with the relevant regulator
- Administration, investor records, and reporting
- Custody or safekeeping of assets
Full authorization or a smaller-manager regime
In the EU, managers above the AIFMD thresholds need full authorization. Smaller managers below the thresholds may qualify for a lighter registration regime with their national regulator, with fewer requirements and no marketing passport. Which route fits depends on fund size, investors, and strategy, and needs legal advice.
Where a trust company fits
A Swedish trust company can support a fund set-up with fiduciary administration, such as holding assets or managing escrow for investors. It does not replace an authorized or registered fund manager, and it is AML-registered only, without passporting.
Investor portals on EBANQ
EBANQ can serve as a branded portal for investor accounts, balances, statements, and secure messaging, with administrator roles for fund staff.
